African Truck Weight Restrictions, Increased Transportation Costs of Timber
According to local African timber suppliers, the implementation of truck load regulations is driving up transport costs. Timber trucks in Gabon and Cameroon now have to pass the pound.
Exporters say the new rules almost doubled their heavy-duty timber transportation costs, and they expect transportation costs for such categories as Okoume to increase by 10%. There is strict monitoring at the weighing point. If the truck is overloaded, the authorities will issue a ticket quickly. It is reported that there are also military forces on the ground scale site in some areas.
Drivers of small independent trucks complain strongly because strict weight restrictions are affecting their income.
