Anti-dumping Investigation on Medium Density Fiberboard Imported from Thailand and Malaysia
According to the Trade Relief Bureau (MoIT) of the Ministry of Industry of Vietnam, Vietnam launched an anti-dumping investigation on MDF imports from Thailand and Malaysia in October 2018. The survey was the result of complaints filed by four Vietnamese MDF manufacturers on behalf of domestic industries. The technical file claims that these products are dumped, causing damage to local enterprises. Vietnamese companies claim that the price of MDF imported from Thailand and Malaysia is 18-50% lower than the cost of production, which undermines the domestic MDF industry in Vietnam. Vietnam Trade Relief Bureau sent a questionnaire to local enterprises, asking for a response by mid-July 2019, and awaiting the evaluation results of the Ministry of Commerce. This is the first time that Vietnam’s timber industry has put forward trade conflicts to protect local industries.
