Czech Republic may expand timber exports in 2019
The Czech newspaper Rights reported on June 11 that 25.7 million cubic meters of timber were harvested in the Czech Republic in 2018, the third highest number in history. Among them, 23 million cubic meters are unplanned logging, mainly caused by serious forest pest disasters. Spruce accounted for 87.2%, pine accounted for 4.4% and beech accounted for 2.5%.
Earlier this year, the Czech Ministry of Agriculture said it hoped to expand timber exports, including to China, in response to the excess logging caused by insect infestation.
