Four stages and four leaps
1978-1990: the transition period of wood-based panel industry from planned economy to market economy in China
In 1978, the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the CPC was held successfully, which opened the prelude of China’s reform and opening up. In the 1970s, Italian poplar plantations introduced from China grew rapidly, providing sufficient raw materials for wood-based panels. With the construction and production of Furen Medium Density Production Line in 1979, key forestry provinces and regions in China have successively introduced a set of foreign wood-based panel production equipment, focusing on the construction of a number of key wood-based panel enterprises. Especially in 1984, the state organized large state-owned enterprises to sign technology import agreements with the German Wood-based Panel Equipment Company. On the basis of digesting and absorbing foreign advanced technology, the equipment of particleboard production line with an annual output of 50,000 cubic meters was manufactured, which made a qualitative leap in the design and manufacturing level of wood-based panel equipment in China. In the mid-1980s, the non-sticking rotary cutting machine invented by our country reduced the core of plywood from 70 mm to 20 mm, greatly improved the yield of veneer, greatly increased the output of plywood, and the annual output of wood-based panels increased from 625,000 cubic meters to 245,000 cubic meters, with an average annual growth of 24.3%, which laid a good foundation for the development of the industry.
