EU imports of tropical veneers increased by 11%.

In the first quarter of 2019, EU imports of tropical veneers increased 11% year on year to 318,000 tons. Imports grew 13% to 42.6 million euros. In the first quarter of 2019, the EU imported 12970 tons of veneers from Gabon, an increase of 3% over the same period in 2018. After a poor performance in 2018, imports from Cameroon increased by 68% to 4,300 tons. In addition, imports from Equatorial Guinea (+61%, to 1,000 tons) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (+700%, to 900 tons) increased significantly.

At the same time, the number of veneers imported from several long-term veneers to the European Union has decreased, including Ivory Coast (-2% to 7200 tons), Congo (-8% to 2560 tons) and Ghana (-6% to 1050 tons).

In the first quarter of 2019, French imports of tropical veneers increased by 10% to 11 600 tons, Italy by 22%, to 8 100 tons and Greece by 120% to 2 500 tons. However, Spain’s imports fell slightly, to 4% to 4,550 tons.
