Sleek and luminous, glossy film faced plywood is very popular . The smooth finish of the plywood surface allows colors to appear deeply saturated for a rich effect. If plywood are not perfectly sharp and clear, glossy surface can enhance the beautifuty of the plywood .
Often used by professionals plywood manufacturers, matte plywood surface is free of shine, resulting in more muted colors. This helps to make the texture of the plywood surface more pronounced and makes the plywood ideal for highly detailed grain, such as buildings.
Glossy film faced plywood surface finish
Glossy plywood do just what their name implies — they gloss over the plywood , giving it a nice shine. The paper and the coating behind that glossy plywood is actually made up of the same stuff as a matte surface, except that more of the final coating is used. That extra layer of shine tends to give the surface an apparent boost in color and, well, like anything with a bit of shine to it, just looks pretty.
The problem with the glossy plywood finish is that it creates glare. You’ll see light reflecting off the plywood itself, making it hard to view equally under different lighting scenarios. One of the issues many plywood have with glossy plywood is also the fingerprints they tend to attract. The finish of a glossy plywood leaves the print more susceptible to fingerprints.
Matte plywood finish
With less of that final shiny layer, matte prints offer a similar lifespan, but without that glossy sheen. Matte plywood s don’t quite have the same color boost as glossy .Matte plywood tend to be better for less vibrant color schemes .
Without that extra gloss, the matte plywood isn’t as susceptible to shine and fingerprints. In general, though it’s not always the case, professional plywood tend to choose matte over glossy because of the lower likelihood of glare and fingerprinting. While matte tends to play up texture, the surface may look bit grainer because of that enhanced texture.
