How to control the moisture content of furniture in different production stages.

1. Strictly control the final moisture content of wood drying. Wood drying is the source of moisture content control. Only when the final moisture content reaches the requirements can it be effectively controlled in the processing process. There are three main forms of water excluded in the drying process: free water, washing water and combined water (chemical water). When the wood is dried to less than 30%, the free water has been completely drained, and the drained water is the washing water in the wood until the moisture content of the wood reaches 8%. In the past, wood processing plants generally used dehumidification drying kilns for drying. The moisture content of the wood obtained by this drying method is relatively uniform, but the drying time is relatively long. If the furniture enterprise does not have the conditions for wood drying, the final moisture content of wood drying should be more strictly controlled, and the final moisture content should be lower, because these wood must go through transportation and other links.

2. Control of moisture content during machining: it is difficult to control the moisture content of wood during machining. The most effective way is to shorten the stay time of wood during machining. In rainy weather, it is better to close doors and windows for processing, and in sunny days, it is better to open doors and windows for ventilation and ventilation. In this way, the humidity of the air in the processing workshop can be reduced, so as to slow down the moisture absorption speed of the wood. For some furniture parts that need secondary processing (that is, after the furniture parts are assembled by woodworking, they need to be returned to the motorized workshop for size correction, sanding or other processing processes), the parts should be matched when they arrive at the woodworking workshop, and other parts should not stay in the workshop for a long time because of one part. For example, the door cap and door stile of the door frame in antique furniture should be well matched when entering the woodworking workshop. In this way, the carpenter can be taken back to the motorized workshop for second processing immediately after assembly. Of course, dehumidification equipment can also be installed in the transfer buffer warehouse between the machining workshop and the woodworking workshop, which can also better reduce the moisture absorption speed of wood parts.

3. Control of water content in the woodworking assembly stage: the woodworking stage is mainly to assemble parts and components. Some parts and components that cannot be machined (such as carved parts and curved surfaces) should be sanded manually and carried out in the woodworking workshop. Therefore, the woodworking workshop needs to process the parts of a product that need secondary processing first. Some furniture glued with glue should be placed in a place with heating facilities, which can improve the curing speed of glue and reduce the moisture absorption of wood. When all parts are complete, the assembly speed of woodworking products is generally relatively fast. However, in order to ensure the product quality, the relative humidity of the air should be controlled in the assembly workshop. The windows should be opened in sunny days and closed in rainy days to control the moisture content of the wood.

4. Control of water content in the paint stage: Generally speaking, the relative humidity of the air in the paint workshop is high because the paint itself contains water. Some of the water sprayed on the surface of the furniture reacts with the paint to form a paint film, but some of it is absorbed by the furniture. At present, water curtain (curtain) spray booth is used in the paint production line, so the volatilization of water curtain increases the air humidity in the workshop. The solvent used for paint is generally some flammable and explosive organic solvents, and the paint itself is also a flammable substance. These solvents are mixed with paint particles and float in the air. If the mixed gas reaches a certain concentration, combustion and explosion will occur if it is not noticed. Therefore, in order to reduce the concentration of this mixed gas, the paint workshop itself needs a slightly higher relative humidity. In order to ensure the quality of the paint film, the paint workshop needs a relatively clean production environment, so the floor of the paint workshop needs to be cleaned frequently. The most common method is to clean the floor with a wet mop, so the volatilization of water on the floor will also increase the humidity in the workshop. For these reasons, the primer shall be sprayed immediately when the products enter the paint workshop, so that the paint film will form a protective film between the furniture and the atmosphere, reducing the absorption of air moisture by the wood. In sunny days, the doors and windows shall be opened to circulate the air in the workshop, so as to reduce the concentration of mixed gas in the workshop and the relative humidity of the air in the workshop. At present, many furniture factories use assembly line for painting. In this way, far-infrared drying devices or other heating devices can be installed on a certain section of the assembly line. The main function of these devices is to accelerate the drying of the paint film, but it is also beneficial to the control of the moisture content of the furniture.

Moisture content control is an important link in the process of furniture production and processing, and it is also difficult to control. However, as long as we make reasonable arrangements in production and take appropriate measures, we can still achieve satisfactory results.
