The total consumption of adhesives in China in 2021 is the same as that in 2020, which is mainly divided into formaldehyde adhesives and formaldehyde free adhesives. The consumption of formaldehyde adhesive is about 15.4 million tons, mainly including urea formaldehyde resin (including modification) and phenolic resin, of which the consumption of urea formaldehyde resin is about 14.1 million tons, accounting for 91% of the consumption of formaldehyde adhesive; Phenolic resin is about 1.3 million tons, accounting for 9%. Affected by COVID-19, the raw materials of global bulk chemical products have risen, the price of oil has soared, and the prices of downstream products such as urea, methanol, formaldehyde and other raw materials have also fluctuated greatly. The price has doubled since * * and is still at a high level. The sharp rise of chemical raw materials has a great impact on small adhesive enterprises, and many small enterprises are facing shutdown. With the deepening of the implementation of the regulations on the entry of glue making workshops into the chemical park in all provinces, the adhesive production is bound to enter the chemical park for unified management in a safer and standardized way.

The total consumption of urea formaldehyde resin of plywood products in China * *, followed by fiberboard and particleboard. In 2020, the consumption of urea formaldehyde resin for plywood products was 6.87 million tons, accounting for 48.9%; The consumption of fiberboard products is 5.41 million tons, accounting for 38.4%; The consumption of particleboard products was 1.78 million tons, accounting for 12.7%. With the progress of technology, the sizing amount per unit product of various wood-based panels is gradually reduced.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, people have paid more attention to the health of the living environment and aldehyde free wood-based panel products. The pace of green upgrading of the wood-based panel industry has accelerated, and the consumption of aldehyde free adhesives continues to grow rapidly. The consumption of isocyanate adhesive and soy protein adhesive for wood-based panel continued to grow steadily, mainly in the application of fiberboard and particleboard. Waterborne polymer isocyanate adhesive is mainly used in the production of particleboard and plywood, and its application in the production of fiberboard is still in the research and development stage. Lignin adhesive has been widely used in the production of plywood, particleboard and fiberboard. In addition, urea formaldehyde resins such as environmentally friendly modification (flame retardant) are more widely used.

With the change of market demand, the future of adhesives for wood industry will develop in the direction of improving product environmental protection performance, reducing unit consumption of adhesives, improving production efficiency, improving production technology and equipment level, further accelerating the trend of professional supply and improving the quality of adhesives for wood-based panel industry as a whole.
