Plywood QC Inspection Checklist : Part 32 Standards for wood-based panels

Wood-based panel standards are divided into four categories: national standards, industry standards, local standards and enterprise standards. The state encourages enterprises to formulate enterprise standards stricter than national standards or industry standards and use them in enterprises. The power to formulate, implement and supervise standards belongs to the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. It may also entrust relevant agencies to exercise their functions and powers on their behalf, such as the Standardization Committee and the Quality Inspection Station. According to the provisions of China’s Standard Law, national standards and industry standards are divided into mandatory standards and recommended standards.

According to China’s Standard Law, national standards and industry standards are divided into mandatory standards and recommended standards. The standards for guaranteeing human health, personal and property safety and the standards for compulsory enforcement stipulated by laws and administrative regulations are compulsory standards, which must be implemented. Producing, selling, importing and exporting products that do not meet mandatory standards shall be prohibited. For example, “Code for Fire Protection in Interior Decoration Design of Buildings” (GB56222-2001) is a compulsory national standard, which stipulates that: (roof materials) wood and wood materials must reach the level B1 of combustion performance. This requires manufacturers to fire retardant wood treatment, to reach the factory can be used. Most of the general wood-based panel standards are recommended standards.

According to the relevant national decrees, international technical regulations or standards should be taken as the basis for the formulation of standards as far as possible, until the relevant advanced foreign standards, such as ISO, CEN, DIN, ASTM, JiS (JAS) and so on, are equally adopted.

(1) International Standards

International standards refer to the standards formulated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), as well as those established by international organizations and other international organizations (such as the International Bureau of Measurement (BIPM), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) confirmed and published by ISO).

International standards on wood-based panels include: IS01096 Plywood-Classification, IS0 1098 Veneer Plywood for Ceneral use-General Requirements, etc.

(2) Foreign advanced standards

It can be divided into authoritative regional standards. For example, the European Standardization Commission (CEN) and other standards: EN310-Wood based panels-Determination of modulus of elasticity in bending and bending strength, EN317-Particleboard and fiberboard, EN300-Oriented strand board (OSB) and so on.

National standards of major developed countries in the world. Such as American ANSI, German DIN, British BS, Japanese Industrial Standard JIS, Japanese Agroforestry Standard JAS, etc. For example, JIS A 5908-particleboard: JIS A 5905-fibre-dimension board: ANSI A208.1-Particleboard; ANSI A 208.2-Medium density fiberboard (MDF); DIN 280-Parquet.

(3) International prevailing group standards

For example, ASTM D 1037-Standard Test Methods for Evaluating Properties of Wood-Base Fiber and Particle Panel Materials, ASTM D 3500-Standard Test Methods for Structural Panels in Tension, etc.

(4) Domestic standards

National Standards (GB) issued by the State Administration of Quality Supervision and the National Standards Committee or Industry Standards (LY) formulated and promulgated by the State Forestry Administration. Standards related to wood-based panels such as: GB/T 17657 wood-based panels and veneer wood-based panels test methods; GB/T 9846.1-8 plywood; GB/T 4897.1-7 particleboard; GB/T 1718 fiberboard; GB/T 5849 blockboard; GB/T 8102 impregnated paper laminated wood flooring; GB/T 0241 veneer laminated wood; GB/T 1723 wheat (rice) straw particleboard; LY/T 1580 directional particleboard; LY/T 1598 gypsum particleboard Flower board, etc.
