Russian Birch Plywood Inspections and QC Grading

Russian birch plywood is made in Russia.
Baltic birch plywood is made in one of the following countries around Baltic sea: Russia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia.

Baltic birch plywood used to be main material in furniture manufacturing in Europe and USA. Items like drawer sides, drawer bottoms, table tops are very often made of Baltic Birch Plywood.

Baltic birch plywood is used in the following applications:

  1. Flooring for trucks and containers
  2. Furniture for children
  3. Upholstered furniture
  4. Outdoor kindergarten equipment
  5. Children toys
  6. Scaffolding
  7. Concrete forming
  8. ​Doors
  9. ​Packaging
  10. Loudspeakers
  11. Boats and trains manufacturing
  1. Strength. Because of original hardwood material strength of Russian birch is very high.
  2. Beautiful appearance. Baltic birch is very nice. It is almost white and it sometimes even sparkles especially under certain lacquering.
  3. Holding strength is very good. Different kind of components made of Russian birch plywood last very long time in furniture and other applications.

Very important point:

Baltic birch plywood is graded based on combination of appearance of face veneer.
Grading like B/BB, BB/BB, BB/CP, CP/CP, CP/C applied to every sheet of Baltic birch plywood on the base of grading of the top and bottom veneer.

B/BB, S/BB, BB/BB, BB/CP, CP/CP, BB/C, CP/C sanded from two sides and  C/C unsanded.

Many customers use Cabinet Grade. It corresponds to our grades B/BB and BB/BB.
Most of Cabinet Grade is supplied as Interior plywood.

Some of the customers use word Commercial Grade. In our understanding it corresponds to the grades B/BB, BB/BB, BB/CP, CP/CP.

This standard fully describes all technical features of plywood, classifies grading rules, defines rules of acceptance, packaging, etc, the following grades of Interior glue birch plywood:

  • B/BB
  • BB/BB
  • BB/CP
  • BB/C
  • CP/CP
  • CP/C
  • C/C

Grades B/BB – CP/C are sanded from two sides.
Grade C/C is unsanded.

Cabinet grade equal to B/BB and BB/BB is also available.
