Veneer quality control Part 11:Study on Dyeing Process of Fast-growing Poplar Wood

In view of the current situation that poplar veneer is used as base material to improve timber color, the breakage rate of veneer is high and the subsequent processing is complex, three representative dyes are selected: acid scarlet GR, reactive yellow K-RN, direct deep brown B-NM, and the poplar thick wood (30 mm) is dyed. The orthogonal test was carried out at three levels: dyeing temperature, dyeing time, dyeing promoter Na2SO4 and modifier amine-soluble Copper Quaternary Ammonium salt. The distribution of dyes in wood was observed by environmental scanning electron microscopy. After 30 minutes of dyeing with soap solution at 90 C, the color difference before and after soaping was measured, and the soaping fastness was evaluated by the change of color difference. The optimum dyeing conditions were determined as follows: dyeing temperature 80 C, dyeing time 9 h, dyeing promoter Na2SO440 g/L and modifier 5 g/L. Among them, the amount of modifier has the greatest influence on the dyeing effect, followed by dyeing temperature and dyeing time. Acidic dyes distribute in the vascular lumen of wood. Reactive dyes exist in the cell wall of wood fibers. It is difficult for direct dyes to penetrate into the lumber. The results of soaping showed that the resistance of reactive dyes to loss was the best. Under the optimum conditions, the dyeing depth is 30 mm, the dyeing permeability is 100%, and the color difference before and after soaping is 9.98. Expansion
