Vietnam Develops Wood Industry into a National Leading Industry
Vietnam hopes to develop the wood industry into a national leading industry. Nevertheless, Vietnam firmly refuses to accept illegal business practices. The timber used by the timber industry needs to be legal timber.
For the United States, this is one of the most important markets in Vietnam’s timber processing and forest products industry.
Hardwood exports from the United States to Vietnam account for 77% of total exports to Southeast Asia. Vietnam has become the largest importer of hardwood from the United States in the region.
He recognized that the entry into force of Vietnam’s Forestry Law and the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade between Vietnam and the European Union (VPA/FLEGT) would help to guarantee the legitimacy and sustainability of Vietnam’s wood products. He believed that Vietnam would give priority to importing wood materials from suppliers that could guarantee the legitimacy and sustainable development.
