Since December 2025, I have been advising US‑based importers, buyers and purchasers of white birch plywood to pay close attention to the production and export trends of birch plywood from African countries. Many importers responded positively to my suggestions and market observations, and have kept in close contact with the birch plywood manufacturers and suppliers I recommended to them.
As tensions between Iran and Israel intensified in April 2026, FOB prices for African birch plywood (18 mm D/E grade) surged from 380 USD/CBM all the way up to 530 USD/CBM by August. That is a sharp increase of 150 USD/CBM within just three months.
Following my recommendations, many US importers placed substantial stocking orders with African birch plywood mills at highly competitive rates, mostly below 450 USD/CBM. Africa has abundant supplies of eucalyptus and okoume core veneers, and the overall product quality is several grades higher compared with plywood from Southeast Asia.
