3.0 Inspection Methodology & Results
The inspection was divided into two main phases: Visual & Dimensional Inspection, and Laboratory Performance Testing.
3.1 Visual and Dimensional Inspection
Test Parameter | Standard / Requirement | Inspection Method | Results |
---|---|---|---|
Panel Dimensions | 1250mm (±2mm) x 2500mm (±3mm) | Verified using a calibrated steel tape measure. | PASS. All panels were within tolerance. |
Panel Thickness | 18mm (±0.5mm), 21mm (±0.5mm), 4mm (±0.2mm) | Measured with a precision micrometer at 9 points per panel. | PASS. Thickness uniformity was excellent across all samples. |
Surface Flatness | No warping, buckling, or significant deviations. | Visual check and straightedge placed diagonally and across the panel. | PASS. Panels were flat and showed no signs of deformation. |
Film Overlay Appearance | Smooth, even surface. No bubbles, wrinkles, or impurities. | Visual inspection under controlled lighting conditions. | PASS. The film application was uniform and free from visible defects. |
Edge & Core Quality | Tight, firm edges. No gaps or delamination in the core. | Visual inspection and light tapping to detect hollow sounds. Core samples were taken for detailed analysis (see 3.2). | PASS. Edges were well-sealed, and core samples showed tightly bonded veneers. |
3.2 Laboratory Performance Testing on Film Overlay
Samples were cut from the production batch for destructive and non-destructive laboratory testing.
Test Parameter | Standard / Requirement | Test Method | Results |
---|---|---|---|
Film Hardness | Resistance to penetration (Pencil Hardness ≥ 2H). | Pencil Hardness Test (ASTM D3363). Scratches were made with pencils of increasing hardness. | PASS. The film surface demonstrated a hardness equivalent to 3H, indicating high resistance to abrasion. |
Scratch Resistance | No visible scratching under moderate force. | Cross-Cut Adhesion Test (ASTM D3359) and scratch test with a calibrated stylus. | PASS. The film showed excellent adhesion to the substrate (Rating 5B) and high resistance to scratching. |
Color Fastness / Resistance to Staining | No permanent staining or discoloration. | Applied common construction site contaminants (concrete residue, oil). Samples were cleaned after 24 hours. | PASS. The non-porous film surface prevented absorption. All contaminants were removed without staining or discoloration. |
Water Resistance | No delamination after water exposure. | Boil Test (EN 314-2). Samples were boiled for 72 hours. | PASS. The samples showed no signs of delamination, confirming superior waterproof bonding. |
3.3 Substrate (Core) Quality Assessment
Core samples from the 4mm and 18mm panels were analyzed to verify the integrity of the plywood substrate.
- Wood Species: Mixed Hardwood (as specified).
- Glue Type: Phenolic Resin (WBP – Weather and Boil Proof).
- Core Integrity: The veneers were evenly thick and tightly bonded with a full, even spread of glue. No overlapping or gaps were observed.
- Moisture Content: Measured at 8-10%, which is within the optimal range for plywood intended for export to European climates.
4.0 Common Quality Tests for Film Faced Plywood
This inspection is part of our standard quality assurance protocol. Other routine tests we perform include:
- Surface Absorption Test: Measures the film’s ability to repel water.
- Bending Strength & Modulus of Elasticity (MOR/MOE): Determines the load-bearing capacity.
- Cyclic Weathering Test: Assesses long-term durability under UV and moisture cycles.
- Chemical Resistance: Tests resistance to alkaline environments (simulating wet concrete).
5.0 Conclusion
The batch of Film Faced Plywood inspected on September 18, 2025, meets all the critical quality parameters for high-performance concrete formwork. The product exhibits exceptional surface properties in terms of hardness, scratch resistance, and ease of cleaning, ensuring a long service life and excellent concrete finish. The core substrate is robust and waterproof.
We confirm that this production batch is approved for shipment. We are committed to maintaining this high standard of quality for all our products, ensuring complete satisfaction for our partners in Europe and worldwide.
