Application of Adhesives in Wood Industry

Introductory reading: adhesive is a kind of natural or synthetic, organic or inorganic substance that can connect two or more kinds of products or materials through the adhesion and cohesion of the interface.

  1. The application of plywood in plywood is a three-layer or multilayer board made of wood segments cut into veneer or wood planing into veneer, and then glued with adhesives. Usually, odd layers of veneer are used, and the fiber directions of adjacent layers of veneer are perpendicular to each other. Class I plywood: plywood with high water resistance, mainly used outdoors, such as ships, vehicles and building formwork. The adhesive used is mainly phenolic resin (PF) adhesive. Class II plywood: waterproof and moisture-proof plywood, which can be used under high humidity conditions, but cannot be used outdoors for a long time. There are mainly melamine modified urea formaldehyde (MUF) adhesives. Class III plywood: moisture-proof plywood, mainly used indoors. There are mainly urea formaldehyde resin adhesives. Class IV plywood: It is not resistant to water and moisture. It is mainly glued with blood powder or soybean powder. In recent years, it has basically stopped processing.
  2. Application in particleboard Particleboard is a kind of board made of particleboard or broken wood and wood chips produced in the process of cutting and processing, added with adhesive and solidified by hot pressing. It is mainly used in furniture manufacturing and construction industry, as well as train and car carriage manufacturing. Urea formaldehyde resin adhesive is generally used for ordinary particleboard; For straw particleboard, isocyanate adhesive or inorganic adhesive should be used; The oriented strand board adopts urea formaldehyde resin or phenol formaldehyde resin adhesive.
  3. The application of fiberboard in fiberboard is the wood-based panel made of wood fiber or other vegetable fibers by hot pressing with adhesives. Mainly used for laminate flooring, door panels, partitions, furniture, etc. The furniture is usually made of MDF. High density boards are used to make materials for indoor and outdoor decoration, office and civil furniture, stereo, vehicle interior decoration, computer room anti-static floor, dado, anti-theft door, wallboard, partition, etc. The adhesives used are usually phenolic resin, melamine resin, polyvinyl alcohol resin and urea formaldehyde resin, with the dosage of 5-10% of the fiber mass.
  4. The application of blockboard in blockboard is made by cold pressing or hot pressing with adhesive, with double-sided planed chipboard as the core board and three-layer plywood (or single-layer wood chip) as the surface material of skin board. It is widely used in furniture manufacturing and interior decoration of buildings. Common adhesives include urea formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin adhesive, polyvinyl acetate lotion.
  5. The application of decorative board is the secondary processing product of the above artificial boards. The price, use and adhesive of the decorative board are different depending on the materials used. ① Melamine resin paper decorative board veneer. ② PVC film veneer. Generally, lotion adhesive is used, and the coating amount is 120~170g/m2. ③ Unsaturated polyester resin decorative veneer. The adhesives used include urea formaldehyde resin adhesive, polyvinyl acetate lotion adhesive, etc., and the coating amount is 100~150g/m2.
  6. The application in furniture manufacturing The furniture manufacturing shall adopt the bonding process in the joint, panel and veneer. The process characteristics of furniture woodworking require that the adhesive used must have the advantages of simple use, high starting temperature, fast curing and shaping to meet the needs of assembly line production. The adhesives used are urea formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin adhesive, polyvinyl acetate lotion. Common adhesives include urea formaldehyde resin adhesive, white latex and hot melt adhesive.
  7. Application in building materials In the modern construction industry, the manufacturing of large wooden structures has widely used the bonding process. Such as arch beams, halls, theaters, factories, gymnasiums and other roof structures. The main adhesives are resorcinol formaldehyde resin and resorcinol modified phenolic resin adhesive.
