Specific Material Requirements for USA Premium Grade Kitchen Cabinets
(Compliant with AWI Premium Grade, ANSI/KCMA A161.1, NHLA & TSCA Title VI)
1. Cabinet Box (Carcase)
- Main Panels: Full 3/4 inch (19mm) hardwood plywood, A-1 veneer grade core; no particleboard/MDF for structural components.
- Back Panel: Minimum 3/4 inch (19mm) solid plywood (not thin hardboard).
- Edge Banding: All exposed raw edges fully sealed with color/wood-grain matched high-quality PVC/veneer banding; no gaps, peeling or rough edges.
2. Doors & Drawer Fronts
- Solid Wood Version:
- Lumber graded NHLA FAS (First & Seconds).
- ≥83% clear surface area; minimal tight sound knots only, no open knots, splits, checks or wormholes.
- Veneered Version:
- Face veneer: A-grade hardwood veneer, consistent grain & color.
- Core: 3/4” multi-ply plywood; no voids, delamination or patches on visible surfaces.
- Frame & Stiles/Rails: Solid FAS hardwood or matching plywood.
3. Drawer Components
- Drawer sides/front/back: 3/4 inch (19mm) plywood or solid FAS hardwood.
- Drawer bottom: Minimum 1/4 inch (6mm) plywood (no thin hardboard).
- All drawer structural parts: No composite particleboard.
4. Wood Moisture Content
- Strict range: 6% – 8% MC (to prevent warping, shrinking and cracking in US indoor environments).
5. Formaldehyde Emission (Mandatory)
- Comply with TSCA Title VI / CARB P2: Formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.09 ppm.
- All composite wood materials (plywood, veneer core) must carry valid certification.
6. Additional Material Rules
- No recycled/low-grade wood cores on visible or load-bearing parts.
- All lumber/veneer shall be kiln-dried properly.
- Trim, moldings and accent pieces: Matching FAS grade solid wood or A-grade veneer.
