Standards & Regulations for Wood-Based Products

This APA resource provides you with up-to-date information on regulations and standards governing the use of engineered wood products in the UK and EU. While their titles may differ, they share the same principles for best practice in construction.

You’ll find it rich with technical information. We take an application approach, matching the standards you must comply with for the performance characteristics you need for specific applications. Start by choosing your product – plywoodOSBLVL.

The core standard for construction standard is (BS) EN 13986:20 04+A1:2015. We’ve  identified more than 50 individual standards  that will help you for specifying and engineered wood panels.  All we have done is to add ‘British Standard (BS)’ in front of the title so you can see that they remain the same. If this were to diverge, we’ll flag that up. For changes to regulations or standards, check out latest standards news.

While there is currently no EU standard (or UK equivalent) for I-joists, you can obtain the technical info you need from the European Assessment Document (EAD). Until there is a UK version, industry will use the EAD in both the EU and UK. More

Construction Products Regulation, EU-CPR and the UK-CPR set down strict rules for the manufacturer to follow, making them responsible for any performance claims. APA’s certified wood products are sourced from only sustainably managed resources, check out Green Topics. The illegal harvesting of wood has become a major environmental concern, with the latest timber regulations, (UKTR and EUTR) setting down responsibilities for the importer, distributor and trader.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides information on a product’s environmental impact. (BS) EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 is the most important environmental standard and defines how companies should go about creating an EPD. More
