02-1 Raw materials and processes of three kinds of wood-based panels

02-1 Select wood-based panel with environment-friendly adhesive as far as possible

Traditional adhesives, such as urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive, phenolic resin adhesive and melamine adhesive, have low cost and excellent performance, but will release formaldehyde. Therefore, the amount of glue used for wood-based panel with such adhesives needs to be specified. From the perspective of environmental protection, it is recommended to give priority to the use of formaldehyde-free adhesive. Now the wood-based panel with MDI adhesive is widely used in the market.

MDI adhesive is free of formaldehyde, and it will react with fiber to form a polymer form called polyurea (similar to plastic). This polymer structure has no volatility, so the environmental protection board made of MDI adhesive can achieve zero formaldehyde release of adhesive, and its safety and environmental protection are far better than that of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive.

02-2 Select wood-based panel with environmental protection grade as endorsement

On October 1, 2021, GB/T 39600-2021 Classification of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-based Panels and Their Products will be implemented soon. This standard is applicable to the classification of formaldehyde emission from various wood-based panels and their products.

After that, the level standard of formaldehyde emission in the chaotic market will be changed. Consumers need to pay attention to the corresponding level of wood-based panels while considering the adhesive used for wood-based panels. In terms of the numerical division of release, the ENF level of the new standard is absolutely at the highest level, whether it is the Japanese F-star standard or the American CARB certification.

03 Edge banding is the environmental protection guard of wood-based panels

The edge banding problems to be noted are:
