When to Choose an Engineered Wood Floor
It generally expands and contracts less than solid wood flooring. This, along with your choice of top layer, makes engineered wood floors less likely to have gaps and squeaks develop over time. Touchwood recommends going with an Engineered floor if you would like wide plank flooring with a width wider than 3 1/4in.
Textures, like saw cut, wire brushed or hand-scraped flooring are only available as a prefinished engineered hardwood floor.
Engineered hardwood is better for basements, over in-floor heating, and other places where solid wood isn’t covered by warranty.
