UK and EU Standards for OSB

OSB Single Storey ConstructionThe UK has adopted the same EU standards for using OSB in construction and continues to accept the CE mark until January 2023.

OSB products must comply with the overall harmonised (EU) or designated (UK) standard for wood-based panels, (BS) EN 13986: 2004+A1 2015.

The standard that classifies OSB: (BS) EN 300: Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) – Definitions, classification and specifications.

Finding the right standard for your application – APA’s  easy-to-use guide to help you match the right standard you need to comply with for a specific performance characteristic and application.

(BS) EN 335:2013 provides  moisture content guidance and Use and Service Classes.  Use classes have replaced ‘hazard class’.  Your APA guide, here.

Other useful standards for OSB:

(BS) EN 319: Particleboards and fibreboards – Determination of tensile strength perpendicular to the plane of the board

(BS) EN 717-1(BS) EN 717-2) and (BS)EN ISO 12460-5: Wood-based Panels – Determination of Formaldehyde Release

(BS) EN 789: Timber structures – Test methods – Determination of mechanical properties of wood-based panels

(BS) EN 1058: Wood-based panels – Determination of characteristic 5 percentile values and characteristic mean values

(BS) EN 12369-1: Wood-based Panels – Characteristic Value for Structural Design – OSB, particleboard and fibreboards

(BS) EN 12871: Wood-based panels – Performance specifications and requirements for load bearing boards for use in floors, walls and roofs

PD CEN/TR 12872: Wood-based panels – Guidance on the use of load-bearing boards in floors, walls and roofs
